Swedish Therapeutic MassageIt is most commonly associated with the standard relaxation massage. Lotion or oil is used to create smooth, flowing strokes (effleurage) to improve blood circulation and the flow of lymph. The kneading techniques help relieve muscular tension and relax the nervous system. Tapotment is used by some therapist. This is the taping of hands over the body creating vibrations in the muscle tissue to help loosen muscle adhesions.Deep TissueEvery individual has the appropriate amount of pressure needed on the body to create healing in muscle tissue. This pressure is different for each person and for different places on the body. Deep tissue massage intends to find the maximum amount of pressure to create change, while still providing a pleasurable experience. This style of massage is not painful. It is finding the point before pain, while still maintaining comfort in the body. Pain creates tension, and tension is the opposite of relaxation. Healing occurs while the body is relaxed. The pressure we provide is exactly what you need and desire. Deep tissue massage is the most effective when applied to specific areas of the body.Myofascial ReleaseMyofascial release therapy releases tension from the fibrous bands of connecting tissue (fascia). Fascia provides a thin, tough, flexible layering system which surrounds, penetrates and connects muscles, bones, ligaments and organs in the body. It is the woven thread which holds us together. Any disruption in one place on the body can and will have an altering effect on multiple areas in the body. Tension in the neck could be a result of fascial adhesions in the back or legs. Injuries, surgeries, physical or emotional stress or trauma can create tensions in the fascial system. Myofascial Release therapy utilizes gentle, kneading manipulation that stretches, softens, lengthens and realigns fascia. When restricted areas are found, the therapists will gently stretch tissues in all directions. The process is very slow and relaxing. |
